Lexi slowly sat up, keeping eyes locked on her friend. “Y-You’re not…upset?”

“What? Why would I be upset?” she asked, cocking an ear. “They’re perfect for each other.”

Lexi sat up, staring at Cassandra. “You’re sure?”

“Yeah.”

“Absolutely sure?”

Cassandra nodded with a subtle giggle. “Of course. I’m happy for them.” she answered. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

Lexi raised an eyebrow and groaned. “Because Sonya’s your daughter and Lotus is you’re best friend?”

Cassandra cocked an ear and laughed to herself. “Well, yeah…but that’s doesn’t really matter?”

Lexi whined and fell forward against the table. “I’m not stoned enough for this…!!!” she cried, covering her head again. “Why’re you guys so weird…!!!”

As Cassandra sat there watching Lexi, Selene walked in and set a plate down on the table beside Lexi’s head. “Here you go.” Lexi moved her arm to see what she set down. She sat up slowly, seeing numerous small bite sized cakes sitting on the plate. “We didn’t have any cookies, but we have these.”

Lexi took one and popped it into her mouth, while Selene sat down beside Cassandra. “How’d you find out about Sonya and Lotus?” asked Cassandra. “She never said anything to us about something going on between them.”

Lexi looked away with a groan. Mason walked out of the kitchen holding two beers. “She was talking about it with me just before we got home.” he said, sitting down on the couch. He set one of the bottles down on the table in front of Lexi, who quickly grabbed it. “She said she’s had it on her mind for a while.”

Cassandra whimpered, watching Lexi as she held the beer in her hand. “Lexi, you’re not old enough to drink…” she mumbled, with a clear sense of worry in her voice.

Selene giggled softly and turned to her friend. “It’s only one. She’s avoided it for awhile, so let’s let her have it.” Cassandra looked at her then, with a smile, giggled and turned back to Lexi who looked more uncomfortable than before. Selene cocked an ear. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah…I guess so.” answered Lexi, scratching the back of her head. “I’m REALLY not stoned enough for this…”

As she took another cake off the plate, Mason popped the cap off his beer with his pocket knife, then set it down on the table. “You’ll need this to open it.” he said, before looking at Cassandra. “You’re sure she never said anything?”

“No, she talks to Lotus more than any of us…” She watched as Lexi suddenly opened the beer bottle with her teeth. Cassandra winced, shocked that she was able to open in that way. “D-Doesn’t that hurt?”

Lexi shook her head. “No. I’m use to it.” She took a sip and took another cake. “She told me yesterday at the mall before I ran into you.” she explained. “I wasn’t really sure how to handle it though…” She ate the cake and looked toward the stairs, hoping Sonya wasn’t going to suddenly show up.

“Why not?” asked Selene, taking two of the cakes and handing one to Cassandra.
